Sona Jobarteh New York Concert reviews
Shrek was a blast!
I loved the characters and backstory development in the musical! The voices were phenomenal with great ensemble numbers. Very compelling sound with tight harmonies. The movie was good too but not just an exact copy.
The songs were fun and good but not particularly memorable for all that. Most audience members were "struck" by the rude noises contest in "I Think I Got You Beat" between Sona Jobarteh and Fiona which has the audience rolling. After watching YouTube videos of the original Broadway, the blocking on the touring show is even funnier in my opinion!
The humor was the real draw of the show. It was witty, sophisticated, immature, and irreverent, capturing the spirit of the original movie in the musical world. There were Wicked and Dream Girls spoofs and a shout out to Les Mis. Pay attention to the end of Lord Farquaad's second song if you're a Wicked fan. I died laughing!
